Fine Gael General Election candidate for Limerick City Maria Byrne, has today said that ensuring the expansion of the July Provision tuition scheme to all children with disabilities will be a priority of hers if elected as a TD for Limerick City.
Maria Byrne who is the current Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Education & Skills said:
“Currently July Provision is only available to children with a severe or profound general learning disability or children with autism”
“Children with disabilities must be set up to succeed and not to fail and the current exclusion of some children from this vital education support is unfair”
“Having volunteered at the Special Olympics and spoken directly to families, I know that should this tuition scheme be expanded to include all children with disabilities they would be able to can catch up with their peers and remain in mainstream education.
“Children with disabilities have masses of potential and deserve the same chances as every other child. If elected as a TD for Limerick City I will work hard to ensure that the July Provision tuition scheme is expanded” the Fine Gael General Election candidate concluded.
